Chemicals Around the House

Following is a list of chemicals found in goods you might have in your home. Look at the ingredient lists on the household items in the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom and see if you can find the chemicals on the list. Record the name of the product where you found this chemical compound and what the product is used for, e.g. food. (Chemicals found together in the same product are on the same line.) How many can you find?

1. sodium hypochlorite, chlorine.

2. sodium hydroxide.

3. monosodium glutamate.

4. lactose, maltodextrin.

5. caffeine.

6. aluminium chlorohydrate.

7. sodium monofluorophosphate, sodium fluoride.

8. chloroxylenol.

9. potassium hydrogen tartrate.

10. ascorbic acid, glucose.

11. piperonyl butoxide.

12. salicyclic acid.

13. sodium polyphosphate, sodium silicate, sodium sulfate.
